The Torah is from the word horaah, to guide us. The very first, simple thing that one needs is: to fulfill the Torah! The 613 mitzvos are just the basics. They are the roots. There are many details.
How can a person know all of the Torah which he must fulfill? One who doesn’t learn Torah today doesn’t know the Torah, and if he doesn’t know the Torah he doesn’t fulfill the Torah, and that means he is not serving the Creator correctly.
So the first thing one needs in order to be live like a true and simple Jew is: to learn Halacha.
How much does one learn? Each person is different with this. But everyone needs to keep the entire Torah. In order to keep it, one must learn it. One needs at least 30 minutes a day to learn simple Halachos, learning halachos such as the laws of washing hands in the morning, the laws of Berachos, the laws of Shabbos. When you have a family, it is not possible to avoid running into prohibitions, Rabbinical and Biblical, without learning Halacha. We all must keep Halacha. Surely, it takes time from our schedule. But if one does not learn Halacha, he will not know how to keep the Torah.
Every Jew, man and woman – each must learn the halachos he\she must know. Without this basis - learning Halacha - it is impossible for one not to always keep the Torah and never stumble.
