There are two kinds of “thinking in learning”, which can also be described as two different kinds of learning. One kind of person learns and thinks about what he’s learning and he can finish Shas that way. But another kind of person actually enters the Torah. The Torah is the container with which how we can get to Hashem, and one must live in it and let himself be contained in it. Thoughts of Torah must envelope a person. The Torah is like a mikveh which purifies you, and you get purified only when you enter it.
This cannot be adequately described in the word, but anyone who learns a little bit with iyun (in-depth analysis) knows that there are thoughts and then there are deep thoughts of Torah which one enters and it envelopes him. They are two totally different worlds.
